About The Event
Trail and District Arts Council presents Kootenay Savings Music in the Park featuring Robin Layne & The Rhythm Makers with opening act KNS Thursday, August 8th at 6:15 pm at Gyro Park, Trail BC The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community back together this Summer at Gyro Park for Music in The Park. With eleven shows and two acts per night, from June 27 to August 15, it’s the perfect opportunity for all the family to get together outside and listen to great live music. This season we have a great mix of music from local favourites to touring talent! This week, the Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to present KNS and Robin Layne & the Rhythm Makers on August 8 in Gyro Park for Kootenay Savings Music in the Park. Juno nominated percussionist Robin Layne & The Rhythm Makers bring their groove heavy music to Trail for Kootenay Savings Music in the Park. With roots in rhythmic traditions from around the globe Robin Layne & the Rhythm Makers’ music blurs the lines between jazz and folk as they carve out new territory for the marimba. Since their debut release “Memories” in 2018, they have been making a name for themselves on the festival circuit over the past few years. The Rhythm Makers are: Daniel Ruiz on drums, Jocelyn Waugh on trumpet, Liam MacDonald on percussion and Wynston Minckler on bass. Robin Layne has worked with many of Canada's finest global artists and toured throughout China, Europe, Mexico, USA and Canada. He has steeped himself in rhythmic traditions around the world, from Cuba to West Africa to Mexico and beyond, for inspiration for his compositions. Highlights of his solo performances include Nanjing Jazz Festival, Hildesheim Jazz Festival, Victoria Jazz Fest, Arts Wells Festival, Vancouver Island MusicFest, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues, Vancouver Folk Festival and Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Robin is in demand as a freelance percussionist for recordings, performances and tours, and currently performs solo, as well as with Locarno, The BC World Music Collective and more. As well as performing, Robin is the senior percussion instructor at the Sarah McLachlan School of Music and the Artistic Director of the World Rhythms for Youth Society. He was also the co-founder and co-Artistic Director of the Vancouver World Music Festival for five years.
