Trail and District Arts Council presents Kootenay Savings Music in the Park NIGHT MARKET the Lisa Nicole Band with opening acts Kym Gouchie Trio and the Twin Fiddles with Geoff Horrocks (Gorde Stobbe, JJ Guy) Thursday, July 18th at 5:00PM - Night Market at Gyro Park, Trail BC Join the Trail & District Arts Council and Trail’s Incredible Farmers Market on July 18 for an entertaining evening of food vendors, market, beer & wine garden, and live music at The Night Market in Gyro Park. From 5 pm to 8:30 pm there’s lots to do all topped off with great live music. The music will kick off at 5:45 pm as the Kym Gouchie Trio presents a show that is a unique blend of art, storytelling, and music. Lheidli T’enneh artist, storyteller, performer, and cultural ambassador Kym Gouchie celebrates the healing power of music and the joyful spirit of childhood that resonates within us all. Her show is a family-oriented experience, featuring heartwarming Indigenous, folk, roots and subtle country songs for listeners of all ages, from catchy melodies that inspire playful moments to gentle lullabies that soothe the soul. With her traditional hand drum, ukulele, acoustic guitar, full-bodied voice, and authentic storytelling, Kym is dedicated to preserving Indigenous traditions and giving her audience an appreciation for her ancestral learnings and languages. To further enhance the experience tonight, audience members are supplied with rocks, paints and brushes and encouraged to connect with Kym’s music and lyrics while they paint during her concert and share their experience. "When Kym performs, her audience is immediately engaged by her genuine love for people, song and culture. She has the rare gift of being able to connect with children and adults alike, through her storytelling lyrics and her mesmerizing voice." - Julie Fisher, BC School District 57 teacher Kym will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalists Naomi Kavka on Vocals and Cello and Ian Olmstead on Vocals, Keyboard, and Bass Guitar. Then from 6:30-7 pm Twin Fiddles with Geoff Horrocks will take to the stage. Favourites of the fiddling world this trio features award-winning and renowned Canadian fiddlers, JJ Guyfrom Saskatchewan, Gordon Stobbefrom Nova Scotia, andGeoff Horrocks, widely known across Canada as a premier accompanist on guitar for fiddle players. JJ and Gordon’s distinctive original tunes are written in the twin fiddle style with lead and harmony lines that reflect their shared love for traditional fiddle music, the unique places they have been and the people they have met. Telling rich stories of their shared experiences, their show includes much humour and audience participation. Gordon Stobbe is a well known Canadian musician and educator who was recently named a Member of the Order of Canada .JJ Guy is the winner of “The Peopleʼs Choice Award” at the Canadian Grand Masters in 2013. Both Gordon and JJ have been inducted into the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame in New York.Geoff Horrocks was presented with the City of Nanaimo Honour in Culture Award in 2020. Headlining the evening isLisa Nicole and her Bandat 7:05 pm. A musical self-starter whose story-driven lyrics are fused with a modern country sound, Lisa’s music and carefree stage presence have earned her warm admiration from fans. Hailing from Castlegar, her childhood was sprinkled with the sounds of Shania Twain, Martina McBride, and the Dixie Chicks, Lisa Nicole discovered her own love of singing at the age of 8. By 15, she was playing regular jam sessions at Kootenay-area bars, which required her to be escorted on and offstage due to her age. In 2013, Lisa debuted with the EP, “It Got Ugly” and a showcase at the Canadian Country Music Awards. Industry recognition followed with 2014 BC Country Music Association Award nominations for the Ray McAuley Horizon Award and Music Video of the Year. She went to the Canadian mainstages of Sunfest, Rockin’ River Fest, The Calgary Stampede, and Sturgis North Music Fest, and capped off a banner year by winning the 2015 BCCMA/Music BC Artist Development Project, which included a Nashville songwriting trip and placement Canada’s Music Incubator 10-week Artist Entrepreneur Program. Next came the “Come Find Me” EP in 2016, leading to a coast-to-coast Canadian tour, BCCMA nominations, and a once-in-a-lifetime impromptu on-stage performance with Keith Urban at a Nashville pop-up concert. Plus, back-to-back Canadian Music Week Showcases in 2017 and 2018. After performing as part of 2018 Canadian Country Music Week in Hamilton, she connected with CCMA award-winning producer Jeff Johnson to produce her first full-length album, 2021’s “Where Wild Hearts Beat”. Lisa will be joined on stage tonight by Jason Thomas, Tonnie Stewart, Terry Alton, and Chris Rhodes on drums. Also tonight you won’t want to miss a sneak peek at the talented kids in this year’s Triple Threat Theatre show “Matilda - the Musical”. Organized by Trail & District Arts Council, in partnership with Trail’s incrEDIBLE Farmer’s Market, our Night Markets have become a staple of Music in the Park where you may picnic, shop, and dance the night away. The market will see a range of artisans and other vendors at the market, as well as tasty cooling treats and delicious eats by our food vendors. Plus, the Beer and Wine Garden will be serving up cold beverages including cider and sodas. So, bring a lawn chair and don't forget to bring plenty of water. Need to cool off? The music is right by the water park and the river! Admission is by donation - $3 minimum suggested. Or support the Trail Arts Council's programming by buying a Season Pass for the whole summer for $30! Our last Night Market is on August 15 and will be another great night of music with Maritime Kitchen Party, Stubbs and the, and Rhythm By Nature all performing.
