Rossland Winter Carnival, since 1898! Olaus Jeldness would be amazed. He was the Norwegian miner who, way back in 1898, initiated Canada’s Oldest Winter Carnival. We are excited to announce the return of the Rossland Winter Carnival, to be held the weekend of January 25th to January 28th, 2024!

Rossland Winter Carnival, since 1898!

Olaus Jeldness would be amazed. He was the Norwegian miner who, way back in 1898, initiated Canada’s Oldest Winter Carnival. We are excited to announce the return of the Rossland Winter Carnival, to be held the weekend of January 25th to January 28th, 2024! Community and family-oriented activities will decorate this historical weekend, with lots of reasons and ways to celebrate!  Ice sculptures, snow slides, tobogganing, skating, local business specials, and more! Olaus would be astounded to see boarders and skiers flying through the air during Saturday’s fantastic “The Game” Rail Jam competition in downtown Rossland.

The world famous professional carving team, Slocan Snow Sculptures, will be creating snow sculptures at the entrance to the Ice Palace, and an ice slide at the library. Free tobogganing (Cook Ave. Park) open to the public *weather permitting*

Free outdoor ice rink (On 3rd Avenue across from the new City Hall)

Backyard Party Palace Participate in Rossland Recreation’s “Yardival” contest –January 8th  to January 28th A snow fort party palace contest Build it in your yard, take a photo and send it to recreation@rossland.ca see poster below.

Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre Saturday & Sunday all day! Snow maze, tobogganing, snow painting, campfire,indoor crafts, hot chocolate & hot apple cider.*We’ll have toboggans, crazy carpets & showshoes in all sizes! Maple Taffy at 12:30, 2:30, & 3:30pm Snowman-building Contest – Build all day (both Sat. & Sun.) Winners announced at 4:00pm Sunday. Entrance by donation.

Olaus Look-Alike Contest sponsored by the Rossland Beer Co. Free to enter. Simply have your photo taken on location (1990F Columbia Ave.). Hours: Thurs. – Sat. 1:00pm – 9:00pm & Sun. 1:00pm – 8:00pm. Winner of Rossland Beer Co. merchandise will be announced by Tuesday, January 30.
