The Creston Community Auditorium Society works independently from School District #8—the owners and operators of the Kootenay River Theatre—to support local arts groups and users of the Kootenay River Theatre. This is done through fundraising and capital improvement projects aimed to ensure the Kootenay River Theatre has the equipment needed to support the arts in Creston. More recently, we have expanded our operations to include online ticket sales. After seeing the community lag behind in embracing technological enhancements, we stepped in to offer a unified system that saves presenters time and money while increasing their reach and allowing customers convenient purchase methods.
To book the theatre, visit the Kootenay River Secondary website. Our Mission
To ensure an exceptional performing arts space is available to the community and performers by fundraising for the purchase of equipment and by acting as the intermediary between the school district, local government, and user groups.

An old adage says that every town should have its own brewery, and that was certainly one of the incentives behind opening Erie Creek Brewing. When Colin and Lynn Hango moved their family from Nelson to an acreage in Salmo, they saw the need for a community hangout, a place for people to get together and enjoy a craft beer.

Even before it was voted the #1 après-ski spot in the world by no less of an authority than Powder Bleeping Magazine (R.I.P), we all knew that a trip to Rafters was worth the trip in itself. Some of the best BC craft beers on tap, world-class Caesars, famous nachos and other après-ski comfort food will have you feeling warm and relaxed in no time flat. (And, yeah, that guy that somehow started snoring in the corner during the live music is a bit too relaxed, we agree.)

Design nerds love the 19th century mine timbers that frame the Rafters experience along with the walls chock full of ski lore of years gone by, including a shrine to the local Old Bastards Ski Club. Everyone loves the vintage neighbourhood pub aesthetic and low-key clubhouse feel. It’s like you’re amongst friends the second you walk in the door. Stake your claim at a picnic table and let the golden good times flow.

Rafters is kid-friendly and a great place to fuel up the family after a big day on our big mountain. You can dance the day away to live bands and guest DJs or sit and sip a pint at the bar. And, if you’re staying on-hill, it’s an easy walk to your condo at Last Call, no designated driver required.

Location? First, undo your ski boots. Now, head all the way upstairs in the Day Lodge to the 3rd floor to find out what fun really looks like. Welcome to Canada.

Living as a Kootenay-Canadian makes one privy to one of the most unique cultures this side of Canada. There’s an easiness the locals describe as dirt-baggery in this part of the world. It’s a celebration of friendships, adventures, curiosities and free time over busy-ness and material aspirations.

Folks in the Kootenays are resourceful, friendly, and a bit gritty. The Shed pays homage to the lifestyle of those that have lived here and that do live here. If you’ve been here long enough you’ve probably ended up at a party in a backyard shed. Your unlaced Sorels propped up on a proudly arranged stack of dry larch, an icy can of beer in hand, and anything from AC/DC to Jack Johnson playing on the stereo. At The Shed everyone is welcome as they are. We’ll do our best to be as evocative of a party with your neighbours in a Kimberley backyard as possible. Let’s celebrate the values of Kootenay culture, it’s a pretty darn good one.

Torchlight Brewing Co. started as an idea that two friends, Josh and Craig, had while enjoying some craft beer on a patio in Halifax. Inspired to open their own brewery back in their home town of Nelson, the friends set out on a path that changed their lives. First, they opened a nano-brewery in June of 2014, but found demand for their beer was outpacing their ability to make it. They then set about expanding into a proper micro-brewery, complete with a full lounge. This dream became realized in May 2017 as the new brewery rapidly filled with thirsty patrons. Torchlight continues striving to make the most delicious and innovative craft beers around. Served in beautiful Nelson BC! Come join us for a pint or a bite and see for yourself…
